Plumbing & heating questions, answered clearly.
Practical answers about boilers, heating systems, plumbing, heat pumps, landlords and larger home projects from a local Mid Sussex team.
Useful information without pretending every problem can be diagnosed online.
Heating and plumbing symptoms often overlap. A fault code, pressure reading or cold radiator can point the investigation in the right direction, but the correct repair depends on the actual appliance and system in front of the engineer.
Use the answers below to understand the likely next step. If you need property-specific advice, send the postcode, equipment details and symptoms rather than trying to choose a repair yourself.

What is the difference between a plumber and a heating engineer?
A plumber typically works on water supply, pipework, taps, toilets, sinks and other plumbing systems. A heating engineer focuses on boilers, radiators, controls and heat distribution. Infinite has both plumbing and heating capability, so an enquiry can be routed according to the work required.
How often should a gas boiler be serviced?
Annual servicing is the normal routine for many domestic gas boilers. Follow the appliance manufacturer requirements and any warranty conditions that apply. An annual service also creates a useful point to report recurring pressure loss, noises or performance changes.
Does a boiler service include repairing an existing fault?
Not automatically. Routine servicing and fault diagnosis are different jobs. If the boiler is already locking out, losing pressure or failing to provide heating or hot water, mention the fault when booking so enough time can be allocated.
When should I repair a boiler and when should I replace it?
Age alone does not decide it. Consider the fault, repair cost, reliability history, parts availability, condition of the wider system and whether the boiler still suits the property. Where both options are realistic, a good recommendation should explain the trade-off.
Why does my boiler keep losing pressure?
Repeated pressure loss can be caused by leaks, expansion-vessel problems, pressure-relief-valve issues or other system faults. Repressurising may restore operation temporarily, but repeated loss deserves diagnosis rather than continual topping up.
Why is a radiator cold at the bottom?
Coldness at the bottom can be associated with restricted circulation or deposits in the system, while coldness at the top is more commonly linked with trapped air. Balancing, valves and pump performance can also affect radiator temperature, so the pattern should be diagnosed before assuming a powerflush is needed.
Can I get a boiler installation estimate online?
Yes. Infinite has an online boiler estimator that provides an indicative range based on property and system answers. A survey is still required before the final boiler specification and quotation are confirmed.
Do you install air source heat pumps?
Yes. Heat-pump work should begin with property and system assessment. Heat loss, radiator or underfloor-heating output, flow temperatures, hot-water storage, controls and outdoor-unit location all influence a successful design.
Does an older house rule out a heat pump?
No. Age by itself does not determine suitability. The important questions are the property heat loss, emitter capacity, available installation space and whether the heating system can operate effectively at suitable temperatures.
Do you carry out general plumbing work?
Yes. Infinite has dedicated plumbing capability for leaks, taps, toilets, showers, cylinders, pumps, overflows, pipework and other practical household plumbing work.
Can you work on unvented hot-water cylinders?
The team includes G3 unvented-system training for work that requires the relevant competence. Tell us what cylinder you have and what issue or upgrade you are considering.
Do you install complete heating systems?
Yes. For renovations, extensions and substantial upgrades, we can look at radiators, underfloor heating, pipework, controls, hot-water storage and the heat source as one coordinated system.
When should the plumber be involved in a bathroom renovation?
Before the final layout and product choices are locked in. Water pressure and flow, hot-water capacity, drainage routes, heating and service access can all change what is practical and how cleanly the finished bathroom can be delivered.
How often do landlords need gas safety checks?
For relevant rented properties, landlords generally need a gas safety check every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer, with the required record handled in line with current rules. A gas safety check and a boiler service are separate tasks.
Can a landlord gas safety check and boiler service be booked together?
Often, yes, if both are requested and the appointment allows. Combining them can reduce separate visits, but each task has its own checks and record.
Do you work with letting agents and property portfolios?
Yes. Infinite offers gas safety, servicing, boiler and heating repairs, plumbing support and recurring scheduling for landlords and letting agents across the service area.
What is Infinite Care?
Infinite Care is a monthly service and maintenance plan built around annual boiler servicing, reminders and priority booking, with different options for homeowners and rental properties. It is a service plan rather than an insurance policy.
Which areas do you cover?
Infinite is based in Lindfield, Haywards Heath and regularly works across Lindfield, Cuckfield, Newick, Henfield, Heathfield and Burgess Hill. Selected work is also undertaken in Brighton, Hove and surrounding areas.
What should I include when asking for a quote?
Send the property postcode, the service required and a short description. For boiler faults, include the make, model and fault code if safely visible. For installations or renovations, include the number of bathrooms, timescale and what you want to improve.
Do you offer emergency call-outs?
For urgent heating or plumbing problems, call 07765 006759 so current availability can be confirmed. If there is a suspected gas emergency, use the official gas emergency service rather than waiting for a website response.
Based in Haywards Heath. Working across Mid Sussex.
Infinite serves Haywards Heath, Lindfield, Cuckfield, Newick, Henfield, Heathfield and Burgess Hill, with selected work across Brighton and surrounding areas.
For a boiler installation, you can begin with the online estimator. For a fault, plumbing problem or larger project, send the property details and we will recommend the right next step.
Do not remove boiler covers or attempt gas work yourself.
If you suspect a gas emergency, use the official emergency gas service. For routine faults, servicing and repairs, a Gas Safe registered engineer can assess the appliance and advise what should happen next.
